On 4–5 September 2026, the international climbing community will meet in Koper, Slovenia, for World Climbing Series Koper 2026 — and Illusion is ready for the action.
This year is particularly special for Slovenian climbing. The event marks the 30th Slovenian World Series competition in Lead climbing, celebrating three decades of world-class competition, iconic athletes and a climbing culture that has helped put Slovenia firmly on the global climbing map.
The first 25 editions of Slovenia’s Lead World Cup event were held in Kranj. Since 2022, Koper has carried the tradition forward, with 2026 marking the fifth edition on the Slovenian coast.
The World’s Best Climbers Are Coming to Koper
World Climbing Koper 2026 will take place on the outdoor competition wall at Plus Climbing Koper, bringing together elite athletes from Slovenia and around the world for two days of Lead climbing.
Qualifications and semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, 4 September, followed by the highly anticipated finals on Saturday, 5 September.
Leading the Slovenian team will be Janja Garnbret, after recording her landmark 50th World Cup victory in Innsbruck earlier this season, Koper will be her next competition appearance.
Alongside Garnbret, Slovenian climbing fans can look forward to seeing some of the country’s strongest Lead climbers, including Rosa Rekar, current Lead World Championship silver medallist, two-time Olympian Mia Krampl, Lučka Rakovec, and Slovenian Olympian and World Cup winner Luka Potočar, together with other members of the Slovenian national climbing team.
Slovenia’s record at its home World Cup events speaks for itself: Slovenian athletes have achieved 35 podium finishes and 14 victories over the history of the competition.
30 Competitions. One Extraordinary Climbing Tradition.
The anniversary is about much more than a single weekend.
Slovenia’s World Cup story stretches back three decades and includes generations of outstanding climbers such as Mina Markovič, Maja Vidmar, Martina Čufar, Natalija Gros, Domen Škofic, Vita Lukan and many more.
In 2026, that heritage meets a new generation of athletes in Koper.
The competition is organised by the Alpine Association of Slovenia / Planinska zveza Slovenije, with Zavod za šport Mestne občine Koper and Plus Climbing Koper among the co-organisers.
The event is also supported by a wide network of partners and sponsors from the Slovenian climbing, sports and business communities, helping make Koper one of the key climbing events of the year.
